Shextreme Film Festival 2017

The inspiring film festival celebrating women in extreme sports and adventure is back for the third year running in Bristol from 5-6th October 2017. With more of a spotlight on women in extreme sports than ever before, the big screen will play host to some majorly inspiring stories, films, faces and locations.

There is no shortage of amazing women in adventure. However, there is a shortage of filmmakers sharing these empowering stories on screen for all to see. This is what Shextreme hopes to address through the festival, now in its third year. The two-day long event hosts a hand-picked programme of adventure film premieres; a film school for training the next generation of female filmmakers plus pop up shops; live art and poetry performances. It’s an action-packed creative celebration of women in extreme sports and adventure.

The events begins on Thursday 5th October with Shextreme Film School. Gain expert advice from award-winning adventure filmmakers such as Rosie Reed-Hillman on how to successfully film your next adventure. Then on Friday 6th October, at leading contemporary arts centre Arnolfini, spark your sense of adventure with an inspiring programme of film screenings and a live panel discussion featuring some incredible women. Confirmed speakers on the night include: Mollie Hughes: the Youngest Woman in the World and the First English Woman to summit Mount Everest from both sides, Creative Director of City to Sea: Michelle Cassar, Bex Band: an adventure blogger, expedition leader and passionate environmentalist and Claire-Jane Carter: a prolific writer and award-winning adventure filmmaker.

Shextreme Film Festival also includes pop up shops from female-led adventure business such as Snooks, live art from surf artist Forever Fin: Kate Hellon and performance poetry from our adventure poem winner of Shextreme Poetry Competition.

‘To all the wild women who answer the call of adventure: Shextreme Film Festival is dedicated to you.’ - Ruth Farrar, founder of Shextreme.

If you are not able to make it to Bristol for the festival, Shextreme is also excited to be launching a BFI Film Audience Network-supported Shextreme Film Tour of UK’s South West: Tuesday 10th October at Exeter: Phoenix, Wednesday 11th October at The Poly in Falmouth and Thursday 12th October at Lighthouse Cinema in Newquay.
